About Japanese Society for Aquaculture Science
Purpose
Japanese Society for Aquaculture Science is organized for the advancement of educational, scientific, and technological development in aquaculture achieved through the active participation and interaction of experts in the field.
Buisiness
Our Society publishes Aquaculture Science and holds meetings for the presentation, exchange and discussion of information, findings, and experiences to accelerate towards the development of aquaculture. The society encourages expanding relations with Korea and holds international symposiums once every two years.
Organization
The Aquaculture Science (AS) was founded in 1953 as part of the Japanese Society Fisheries Science (JSFS, Nippon Suisan Gakkai Suisan Zoushoku Danwa-kai). The Japanese Society of Aquaculture Science published its first volume of Aquaculture Science (AS) on October of the same year. In 1991, during the spring conference of the JSFS, the AR was separated from the JSFS and since then has functioned as an independent academic society. Currently the AS is on its 61st Volume and continues to contribute to the advancement and development of aquaculture.
Rules and Regulations of Japanese Society of Aquaculture Science
1. NAME OF SOCIETY
The name of the Society shall be AquacultureScience (AS).
2. OBJECTIVES
AS is organized for the advancement of educational, scientific, and technological development in aquaculture achieved through the active participation and interaction of experts in the field.
3. MISSON PRIORITIES
AR performs the following works to carry out the objectives:
1) Publication of Aquaculture Science
2) Organizing conferences, symposiums and workshops regularly
3) others
4. TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP
The President approves the admittance of applicants upon the individual selection of the type of membership applied
for and payment of the membership fee. There are seven types of membership in our Society and they are defined as:
1) Ordinary - under the name of an individual
2) Corporate - under the name of the for-profit company or organization
3) Student - to be renewed every year
4) Sustaining - for those who wish to offer support to AR
5) Honorary
6) Overseas - under the ordinary, corporate and student category
7) Subscribing - to be allowed full access to the J-stage website
The members are eligible to receive all the printed magazines and to attend general meetings and conferences. The ordinary and student members are allowed to be primary authors of articles published in our journal.
Registered members have the right to participate in the election of officers during conferences.
Members who fail to provide payments of dues shall be terminated membership to the Society.
The rules and regulations concerning honorary membership and forfeiture of membership shall be provided separately.
5. MEMBERSHIP AND OTHER FEES
Ordinary membership: 6,000 yen/year
Student membership: 4,000 yen/year
Corporate membership: 9,000 yen/year
Subscribing membership: 11,000 yen/year
Sustaining membership: 20,000 yen/year
To place an advertisement in the journal: over 50,000 yen/year
If he/she is to receive our journal abroad, a 20% membership fee will be added. Honorary members are not required to pay the membership fee.
6. OFFICER, COUNCILOR, SECRETARY, EDITING COMMITTEE
The executive committee of the AS consists of a President, a Vice-President, two Auditors and the following officers: councilors, organizers, award selecting members and editorial committee members. Duty period is limited to 3 years, but extensions may be permitted. The election for executive committee and councilors are regulated by other rules. Organizers, award selection committee members and editorial committee members are decided by President Commission.
President, Vice-President, and Auditors
The President represents the Society and has to manage the affairs relating to the Society.The Vice-President shall assist the President of the Society and be delegated as President in case of the President absence.The Auditors inspect accounts of the society.
Councilors
Total of 45 councilors shall discuss about significant issues concerning the Society as the board of councilors.
Organizers
The members composing the office include an administrative affair, an account, an editorial staff, and several members. They work to provide assistance to the President as well as rendering assigned tasks.
Editorial committee
It comprises a President and several members. Advisory editor may be employed.
7. OFFICE
The office should be located in the affiliated organization of the President.
Duty period is limited to 3 years as the fundamental rule.
8. MEETINGS
The society holds the following meetings:
1) General meeting
The attending members of the Society shall make decisions on the budget, accounts and other issues based on the report of the Society affairs. The President shall convoke meetings in spring every year. The President approves a special general meeting when a fifth of the councilors and ordinary members request for a meeting and the President sees it necessary.
2) Councilor meeting
The meeting shall be convened by the President or by a requirement of a third of the councilors. To call the meeting, the majority of the councilors have to attend and the agenda shall be agreed upon by the majority of the attendants.
3) Editorial board meeting
The Editor-in-Chief shall convene the meeting for planning and editing of the journal and magazine to be published.
4) Award selection committee meeting
The President of the award selection committee shall convene the meeting for selecting the recipient of the academic award and encouragement award. The selections have to be announced to the councilor committee.
5) Editorial Board members
The Editorial board shall be composed of a few members, including the Editor-in-Chief. The Editorial board may have editorial advisors.
9. ACCOUNT
1) The assets of the society shall consist of the member dues and other fees.
2) The fiscal year shall start on March 1 and end on the last day of February the following year.
10. All rules and regulations of the Society have to be modified through the general meeting.
11. Detailed rules and regulations for administration and implementation shall be provided separately.
APPLICATION OF THE ACT
All the previous rules have been applied to the Society since April 2, 1991.
